Volleyball Sweeps Marauders In Non-conference Match-Up

WILBERFORCE, Ohio – The Ohio Dominican volleyball team took a break from G-MAC play, traveling to Central State for a non-conference match-up on Tuesday evening. The Panthers returned home with a 3-0 sweep.

Box Score Notes

  • As a team, the Black and Gold collected 10 service aces and eight blocks.
  • Freshman Ashley Aselage (Tipp City, Ohio) led the way for the Panthers with 10 kills on the night. Junior Olivia Kirksey (Reynoldsburg, Ohio) was right behind her with nine. Kirksey also tallied four blocks.
  • Libero Kelsey Shoup (Dalton, Ohio) notched 11 digs and four service aces.
  • Setter Gabrielle Kirker (Tallmadge, Ohio) grabbed 21 assists. Fellow setter Saige Avery (Yorkville, Ill.) added 11 assists in the match. Avery also registered nine digs.

How It Happened

  • ODU found themselves behind early in the first set 8-5.
  • The Panthers responded with a 10 to one run to take the lead 15-9.
  • Three kills by Jenna Peters (Vermilion, Ohio) extended the Black and Gold lead to 21-14.
  • A kill from Aselage closed set one with Ohio Dominican on top 25-16.
  • ODU jumped out to a 10-7 lead in the second set with a kill from Madison Smith (Elyria, Ohio).
  • Central State tied it up to 10-all before Shoup collected back-to-back service aces, putting the Panthers in the lead 13-10.
  • The Black and Gold won the last six points to take set two 25-17.
  • Ohio Dominican dominated in the third set with grabbing a quick 14-4 lead after kills from Smith, Bailey Christiansen (Delaware, Ohio), and Ashley Chmielewski (Roscommon, Mich.).
  • ODU led the entire set and ended the game on a nine to three run, winning it 25-11.
