COLUMBUS, Ohio -- The Ohio Dominican volleyball team hit over .350 for just the second time in the past six seasons en route to a three-set sweep at Malone Friday evening; 25-15, 25-14, 25-12.

RECORDS

  • The Panthers stayed unbeaten during the shortened 2021 winter season, improving to 3-0 overall and in Great Midwest play. ODU has also claimed two road wins this season.

  • Malone drops its third straight match, falling to 1-3 on the campaign.

INDIVIDUAL NUMBERS

  • Sophomores Emilee Fecht (Hilliard, Ohio) and Kamryn Maxwell (Norwalk, Ohio) combined for 22 of ODU's 40 kills.

  • Fecht led the team with 12 kills, while also tying a career high with five digs. The middle blocker hit .478 in the match and pitched in two service aces as well.

  • Maxwell posted a .412 hitting percentage, as she finished with 10 kills.

  • Junior Amanda Remmetter (Springfield, Ohio) had a balanced effort Friday, collecting nine kills and a team-high eight digs. Remmetter paced ODU in hitting as well at .500.

  • Sophomore Carleigh Deitsch (St. Henry, Ohio) registered 17 assists, while junior Zoe Carmichael (Wooster, Ohio) added 16 helpers.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • A close first set saw the two sides trade the lead early on, but it was ODU who held a one-point margin, 10-9. The Panthers then scored six of the next nine points to extend the lead to 16-12.

  • The Black & Gold never trailed in the remainder of the set, and closed the game on a 6-0 scoring rally, aided by three of Fecht's six first set kills.

  • The Panthers jumped all over the Pioneers in the second set, starting on a 7-1 run thanks to four Malone attacking errors. ODU pushed the lead to seven, 11-4, before MU called a timeout.

  • The Pioneers closed the gap to five points, 15-10, but five consecutive points for ODU, including three Maxwell kills, pushed the advantage to double digits for the remainder of the second set.

  • Just as they did in the second game, ODU ran out to an early lead in the third frame. The Panthers scored nine of the first 12 points. The Panthers led by as many 13 points on several occassions, including the final set tally, 25-12.

GAME NOTES

  • ODU hit .355 in each of the first two sets before hitting .500 in the final game. Overall, the Panthers enjoyed a .390-.057 edge in hitting percentage.

  • The .390 hitting mark is ODU's highest since 2014 and ranks third in the program's Division II era.

  • The Panthers also outdueled Malone in service aces (6-1) and blocks (5-2).

  • ODU's 3-0 start is the program's best since winning four straight at the beginning of the 2011 campaign.
