INDIANAPOLIS – The Ohio Dominican volleyball team fell in its final match at the Midwest Region Crossover Saturday afternoon to Lake Superior State, 3-0.
The Panthers finished the weekend 0-3 at the Academy Volleyball Club in Indianapolis, Ind., and dropped the finale with the Lakers by a final count of 25-16, 25-19, and 25-23.
Freshman Kamryn Maxwell (Norwalk, Ohio) and sophomore Amanda Remmetter (Springfield, Ohio) tied for the team high in kills with eight each. Maxwell added six digs and was a perfect 16-for-16 in service receptions. Remmetter added eight digs.
An early 5-1 run gave Lake Superior State (7-12) an early advantage in the first set, 6-3. A Remmetter kill tied the frame at nine-all, but a 9-2 scoring spurt by the Lakers followed, as they cruised to a 25-16 victory.
Despite seven combined kills from Remmetter and Gillson, the Black & Gold fell 25-19 in the second set. LSSU used a mini 3-0 run to take a 9-6 edge and never trailed after that in a 25-19 decision.
Six straight points by the Lakers gave them a 7-2 lead in the final set. ODU tallied eight of the final 12 points, to help pull within one, 24-23, but it was not enough in a 25-23 loss.
Ohio Dominican will now resume Great Midwest Athletic Conference play with trips to Hillsdale and Findlay next Friday and Saturday, Oct. 25 and 26. The Panthers begin the stretch at No. 16 Hillsdale, with the Friday match scheduled for a 7 p.m. first serve.
