Volleyball Wins Five Set Thriller At AB

PHILIPI, W. Va. – Ohio Dominican's volleyball team won a five set thriller over Alderson Broaddus Friday night at the Rex Pyles Arena.

After dropping game one 25-21 the Panthers came back with a 25-20 win in game two before dropping game three 25-16. ODU then dominated the final two sets winning the fourth set 25-15 and the fifth set 15-6.

Freshman Carleigh Deitsch (St. Henry, Ohio) led the way for the Panther offense recording her third 40 assist performance of the season while adding seven kills and nine digs. Fellow freshman Emilee Fecht (Hilliard, Ohio) had a career-high 14 kills in the win with a season-high hitting percentage of .480 while sophomore Amanda Remmetter (Springfield, Ohio) and freshman Kamryn Maxwell (Norwalk, Ohio) each had 10 kills apiece.

In the first set, the Panthers found themselves tied 13-13 before AB went on a 4-0 run to take a lead they would not relinquish.

Set number two saw the Panthers tied 9-9 before a kill from Remmetter and an ace from Deitsch led the Panthers to an 11-9 lead. AB would tie the game at 14-14 and would get up 19-16 on kills from Maxwell and an AB attack error. The Panthers would eventually get up 24-18 on with Maxwell serving having an ace, kill and assist on the run. AB would get to within 24-20 before Fecht close the game with a kill.

The third set saw the Panthers fall behind early and were never able to recover falling 25-16.

The Panthers also fell behind early in the fourth set 6-2 but the Panthers would score six straight points with Deitsch serving where Remmetter had three kills during the stretch. AB would get to within 12-11 but the Panthers would go on a 13-4 run to finish off the fourth set. Remmetter and Fecht each had four kills in the set to pace the way for ODU.

The fifth set was all Panthers as ODU jumped out to a 10-3 lead as Deitsch served her way to a 3-0 lead and Remmetter pushed the Panthers to a 7-1 lead. AB would climb back in to within 10-5 but five of the final six points went to the Panthers Deitsch's seventh kill of the night ended the contest.

ODU will be back in action tomorrow afternoon at Ohio Valley when they take on the Fighting Scots with the contest beginning at 12 p.m.
