COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio Dominican women's soccer team enjoyed a successful campaign on the field and in the classroom during this past season. For their accomplishments, senior Samantha Buck (Reynoldsburg, Ohio) and junior captain Alaina Behnke (Lima, Ohio) were named to the Academic All-District First Team selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), the organization announced Thursday.
The Panther duo are the only players from the Great Midwest Athletic Conference to capture these accolades.
The 2021 Academic All-District Women's Soccer Team, selected by CoSIDA, recognizes the nation's top student-athletes from their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. Because of their selections, Behnke and Buck advance to the Academic All-America ballot.
Behnke was a stalwart on defense for the Black and Gold, anchoring a backline that enjoyed a stretch in which the opposition failed to tally a goal in over 580-minutes. She also captured G-MAC Defender of the Week honors and on April 28 was named Great Midwest Defensive Player of the Year.
Buck was the second-leading scorer on the team and tallied her 30th career goal on April 7 against Ohio Valley University. She was second on the team in shots with 27 and shots-on-target with 15. The senior Panther also collected First Team All G-MAC honors for her efforts during the spring campaign. She returns to Sunbury Road this fall to continue her Black and Gold legacy.
Ohio Dominican women's soccer finished the 2021 spring season with a record of 6-1-3 and made their fourth consecutive appearance in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference women's soccer tournament.
