COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio Dominican women's soccer team's late rally fell short, as Tusculum took the victory over the Panthers by a score of 2-1.

With the loss the Panthers drop to 0-1-0, while Tusculum starts the season 1-0-0.

The Panthers seemed to control the possession early on, but it was the Pioneers who scored first on a goal from Shannele Sunderland. ODU was able to continue to get opportunities at the net as they recorded eight shots in the first half, but were unable to capitalize on any of them. Tusculum took a 1-0 lead into halftime.

The second half saw the Pioneers get on the board first on a shot from Taylor Lewis from 15 yards out. The goal gave Tusculum a 2-0 advantage with just under 40 minutes remaining.

ODU continued to pressure the ball and was able to make a strong push in the final ten minutes of the game to try and make a comeback. The Panthers were able to put a shot in the back of the net late on a 45 yard chip shot from senior Broegan Sautter (Bellville, OH). Junior Summer Bourcier (Mansfield, OH) recorded the assist on the Sautter goal.

The Panthers late rally was not enough as Tusculum held on to win by a final score of 2-1.

Overall, the Panthers had a 16-3 shot advantage. Bourcier and senior Jordan Mazzi (Galena, OH) led ODU in shots with three each.

The Panthers will look to rebound from the loss on Sunday as they host Southern Indiana at 2:30 p.m.
