Women's Golf Finishes in 2nd Place Tie in Champions of Women's Golf Classic

COLUMBUS, Ohio - After two beautiful days on the links at Champions Golf Course, the Ohio Dominican Panthers women's golf team concluded the 2022 Champions of Women's Golf on Tuesday (Sept. 20). 

The Panthers had 12 individuals compete in the 16-team field as the event hosts, finishing in a second place tie and 13th place as well. The team totals were a 625 (308-317) and 687 (341-343)

With the event designed to honor Champions of Women's Golf, former Ohio State director of golf, Therese Hession was the Champion this week. 

Freshman Sydney Devore (New Philadelphia, Ohio) and sophomore Sarah Anderson (Ashland, Ohio) finished in a seventh-place tie after 36 holes with a total of 154. Devore shot 79 on Monday and improved by four strokes for a 75 on day two. Anderson was the opposite with a 75 on the first day and 79 on Tuesday. 

Junior Shannan Ireland (New Albany, Ohio) ended the event in a 18th place tie, shooting 158 total, with a best round of 77 on Monday. Freshman Caroline Tragesser (Murrysville, Pa.) was one stroke behind Ireland in a 20th place tie at 159. Tragesser shot 78 in the first 18 holes as her top round. 

Senior Alyssa Newsom (Granville, Ohio) and junior Abbey Dillon (Bolivar, Ohio) were separated by one stroke as the pair shot totals of 162 and 163, respectively. Dillon had a 77 as a best round for the event. 

Sophomore Ana Reed (Denton, Texas) improved her best round by two strokes, going from 84 to 82, equaling 166 to finish 43rd. The freshman trio of Morgan Cornwell (Somerset, Ohio), Meg Saffell (Somerset, Ohio) and Sarah Ochs (Beavercreek, Ohio) shot scores of 172, 173 and 182 for Ohio Dominican. Sophomore Ellyn Deibel (Lancaster, Ohio) totaled 183. Cornwell led all Panthers with five birdies over both days, second most in the tournament. 

The Panthers will compete in the Ashland Eagle Invitational on Saturday (Sept. 24) and Sunday (Sept. 25) at Ashland Country Club.
