CHARLESTON, West Va. - After a record setting first round on Monday (Sept. 12) morning, the Ohio Dominican women's golf team nearly matched that in round two on Tuesday (Sept. 13).
With a 308 in the second round, the Panthers totaled a school record 614 for the best 36-hole team score. In shooting 614, the Panthers also outlasted the host Golden Eagles to win the team title at the Golden Eagle Invitational.
Freshman Sydney Devore (New Philadelphia, Ohio) finished in a tie for co-medalist after she shot 75 on Tuesday, totaling 147 for the tournament. She led all players with nine birdies for the event.
Junior Abbey Dillon (Bolivar, Ohio) tied Devore for the best score on Tuesday with a 75 and climbed into a sixth-place tie with a 154 overall score. Senior Alyssa Newsom (Granville, Ohio) shot 78 for the second straight round, finishing in eighth place with a 156. Newsom led all players on the par-5 holes, shooting 2-under over the event.
As an individual, sophomore Ana Reed (Denton, Texas) shot 78 on Tuesday for a 36-hole total of 162. Reed finished 20th overall.
The team finished in the lead for par-5 scoring, while sitting second on the par-3's and par-4's. As a group, the Panthers had 26 birdies while the second place team had 18.
Ohio Dominican returns to the course next Monday (Sept. 19) and Tuesday (Sept. 20) for the ODU Champions of Women's Golf Classic at Champions Golf Course in Columbus.
