TIFFIN, Ohio – The Ohio Dominican women's golf team competed in the first round of the Tiffin University Fall Invitational on Saturday at Mohawk Golf and Country Club in Tiffin, Ohio.
Following the first day of competition, the Panthers sit in seventh place out of 14 teams, shooting a 347 total for the first round. ODU was tied for first place earlier in the day as a team as players began to make the turn to head towards the back nine.
Senior Bailey Krueger (Canal Winchester, Ohio) is the top-cat for the Black & Gold following the first round. Her 81 has her tied for 12th place after the first day of competition. Krueger is also tied for second – place in scoring on par 5's, shooting even par (5.00) on those holes. She is also tied for second amongst the tournament field in birdies with two.
Another Panther who collected a birdie on the day is freshman Abbey Dillon (Bolivar, Ohio). It was a great start to the tournament for the first-year player as she shot +3 on the front nine and collected one of her two birdies on the day. As the Panthers made the turn, she sat tied for second place in the individual standings. Dillon finished the round tied for 29th place with her teammate and classmate Shannan Ireland (New Albany, Ohio).
Ireland shot a first-round 88 and collected seven pars on the afternoon, tying her for seventh place in that statistical category.
Sophomore Alyssa Newsom (Granville, Ohio) shot a first-round 90 and tied Ireland for pars with seven on the afternoon.
Heading into the second round, it's a battle of Great Midwest Athletic Conference foes at the top of the leaderboard. Tiffin University sits in first place, followed by the University of Findlay in second place, and Walsh University in third.
The tournament resumes when the second round gets underway on Sunday morning.
