CANTON, Ohio – The Ohio Dominican women's golf team returned to action on Tuesday, competing in the second event of their season at the Walsh Fall Invite at The Quarry Golf Club in Canton, Ohio.
It was a great day for the Panther women as all four competitors finished inside of the Top-20. ODU shot 360 during the first round and 354 in the second round to finish with a combined score of 714, which landed the Panthers in fourth place.
The Black and Gold were led by freshman Shannan Ireland (New Albany, Ohio) who enjoyed a career day. The freshman collected a sixth-place finish during the second tournament of her collegiate career. She shot a career-best 79 during the first round of the tournament and an 87 during the second round later in the day.
Ireland tied for second among the field in birdies during the tournament, collecting three in total (two in the first round, one in the second). She also finished tied for fourth in Par 4 scoring, shooting +13 in the tournament (4.65), and also tied for fourth on Par 5 holes shooting +5 (5.63).
Fellow freshman Abbey Dillon (Bolivar, Ohio) also enjoyed a strong performance, finishing in 19th place. The first-year Panther shot a 95 during the opening round and a 91 in the second round. Dillon collected nine pars throughout the afternoon and tied for second in scoring on Par 3 holes shooting +3 (3.38).
Sophomore Alyssa Newsom (Granville, Ohio) finished in 17th place, shooting a 95 during the first round and an 88 in the second round. She also collected 12 pars during the tournament.
Senior Bailey Krueger (Canal Winchester, Ohio) collected a season-best 14th place finish on the strength of an 88 in the second round which followed her 95 in the first round. She was tied for third place in Par 3 scoring, shooting +3 (3.38).
It's a quick turnaround for the Panthers as they return to action on Saturday, October 3, when they travel to Mount Vernon, Ohio, to participate in the Mount Vernon Nazarene University Fall Invitational.
