PEPPER PIKE, Ohio – The Ohio Dominican women's basketball team suffered its second loss of the season, falling to Ursuline College 87-66 Saturday afternoon.
Freshman Gabby Stare (Newark, Ohio) led the Panthers in scoring, collecting a career-high 25 points. Stare played all 40 minutes of the contest and went 9-of-18 (50%) from the field.
She was aided by sophomore Celeste Mershimer (Amanda, Ohio) and Olivia Fox (Newark, Ohio) who both reached double figures on the scoresheet. Mershimer has enjoyed some quality performances as-of-late and Saturday was no different. The second-year guard tallied 15 points and snagged five boards in 33 minutes of action.
Fox added 10 points and seven rebounds, just one week removed from her career performance against Lake Erie.
Ursuline grabbed the lead in the early moments of the contest as Bekah Green and Michaela Cloonan combined to give the hosts the led. ODU responded with a 13-2 run to claim a 15-9 advantage on the scoreboard heading into the first media timeout.
The Arrows answered with an 8-0 run of their own to close the first quarter trailing by just a basket. The momentum continued from the hosts into the second quarter. Ursuline outscored the Black and Gold by a margin of 20-9 to close out the first half.
ODU answered with a respectable second half but the hosts established advantage proved too much to overcome.
The Panthers return to action on Thursday, January 14, when they welcome Malone. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 P.M. from Alumni Hall.
