Panthers Stop Storm To Earn First Win Of 2021

PAINESVILLE, Ohio – The Ohio Dominican women's basketball team opened 2021 by scoring a decisive 92-57 victory against Lake Erie College on Saturday afternoon. The win gives the Black and Gold its first 25-plus point victory since 92-58 victory against Ohio Valley in January 2020.  

The Panthers shot a season best 48.7% from the field as five members of the Black and Gold found double figures during the win. Senior Olivia Fox (Newark, Ohio) enjoyed a career day, earning a double-double with a career-high 22 points and 10 rebounds on 10-of-16 shooting.  

Fox started the afternoon strong for the Panthers, earning four of the first six points in the contest for the visitorsHer previous best came when she tallied 17 points against Davis & Elkins in a 66-62 victory back  in December 2018.  

Sophomore Celeste Mershimer (Amanda, Ohio) enjoyed a dynamic performance, tallying 17 points off the bench in 29 minutes of action.  

The backcourt of Kennedy Schlabach (Millersburg, Ohio) and Angela Troyer (Sugarcreek, Ohio) piloted the Panthers to offensive success. Coming into the contest, Schlabach was averaging 7.0 assists-per-game, which is the third best mark in the nation, and best in the G-MACThe third-year guard added another six assists to her season tally while scoring 15 points and securing five rebounds.  

Troyer demonstrated her scoring prowess adding 16 points on 8-of-11 shooting while knabbing five boardsThe senior also proved a pest on defense, securing two steals.  

ODU improves to 3-1 on the season and move to 3-0 when scoring 90-plus points this season and remain a perfect 18-0 during Coach Warren's tenure.  

The Panthers return home for a rare Tuesday contest, welcoming the University of Findlay to Alumni Hall. ODU looks to extend its home unbeaten streak and grab its first win against the Oilers inside of Alumni Hall since February 2019.
