Panthers Season Resumes Versus Kentucky Wesleyan On Thursday

GAME NOTES IN PDF

COLUMBUS, Ohio – It's been 12 days since the Ohio Dominican women's basketball team last played a competitive game but that all changes on Thursday evening as the Panthers welcome Kentucky Wesleyan to Alumni Hall.

ODU returns home where it is unbeaten in its last six contests. The last loss on Sunbury Road came against Cedarville University in January.  The Panthers avenged that loss on the opening day of the 2020 season by virtue of a 95-92 victory, the first against the Yellow Jackets at home in a decade.

During the victory, the Panthers received tremendous contributions from Angela Troyer (Sugarcreek, Ohio) and Kennedy Schlabach (Millersburg, Ohio).

The duo enjoyed career highs in various statistical categories and helped power the Black and Gold to victory.

Schlabach accounted for 15 points and added a career-high 10 assists, while Troyer played all 40 minutes, scoring 30 points, and collecting 14 rebounds.

Milestone watch

Troyer sits 21 points away from eclipsing the 1,000 point threshold in her career. If she achieves this mark she will become the 25th player in school history to collect this honor and the second player in consecutive years.

Last season, guard Alexa Fisher became the 24th player in school history to hit 1,000 points, collecting the mark during a 99-68 victory against Salem on January 8, 2019.

Freshman Gabby Stare (Newark, Ohio) also enjoyed a little home cooking. The first-year player scored 20 points and collected six rebounds in her collegiate debut.

The Panthers aim to collect their first win against KWC since 2018. The Black and Gold last tasted victory against the Purple Panthers on February 3, 2018 when Emily Thomas' 19 points helped propel ODU to victory.

Scouting Kentucky Wesleyan

COVID-19 has presented some scheduling challenges in the world of collegiate athletics and the Purple Panthers haven't been immune. After various postponements and delays around the Great Midwest Athletic Conference, KWC opened its 2020 campaign with a 72-62 win against Hillsdale on Tuesday night.

Cali Nolot scored 14 points and Tahlia Walton added another 12 as the Purple Panther notched win number one on the season.

KWC is in the midst of a road trip that sees them covering Michigan (Hillsdale), Central Ohio (Ohio Dominican), and Northwest Ohio (Findlay) before heading back home for the holiday break.
