Women's Basketball Releases 2019-20 Schedule

2019-20 SCHEDULE

COLUMBUS, Ohio –The Ohio Dominican women's basketball team has released its schedule for the upcoming 2019-20 season.

The Panthers are coming off a 15-14 campaign in 2018-19, which featured a 12-10 mark in Great Midwest Athletic Conference play. Under head coach Lynsey Warren, the Black & Gold compiled their fourth consecutive 15-win season, as well as their fourth straight year with a postseason tournament appearance.

ODU has compiled a challenging non-conference schedule for this winter, with its opponents combining for 163 wins, a .549 winning percentage, three postseason national rankings and four NCAA National Tournament appearances in 2018-19. The season will open with the Midwest Region Crossover at Bellarmine (Ky.) on Friday and Saturday, Nov. 8 and 9. The Panthers begin the campaign against the host Friday evening before facing off with Ashland Saturday afternoon. The Eagles finished last season No. 11 in the coaches poll and are just two years removed from back-to-back national championship game appearances, including 2016-17, where they won the title inside ODU's Alumni Hall.

Following the opening weekend of action will be three consecutive games against Mountain East Conference opponents. Highlighting the stretch is a road contest at Charleston (11/13) and ODU's home opener against Glenville State (Nov. 21). Those two sides met in the MEC Finals last season and both qualified for the Division II National Tournament. Glenville State finished the year ranked No. 25 with a 30-3 record.

Prior to beginning G-MAC play, the Panthers will host a pair of Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference rivals in Northwood and Saginaw Valley State on Tuesday and Wednesday, Nov. 26 and 27. Northwood qualified for the GLIAC Tournament a season ago.

The start of December will bring the start of conference play for ODU. The Panthers are sure to be tested in their opener, a date at 2018-19 co-GMAC champions, Kentucky Wesleyan (Dec. 5). Kentucky Wesleyan defeated ODU in the G-MAC Quarterfinals last season en route to an 18-4 run in league play and a trip to the national tournament. After finishing the first weekend of G-MAC competition at Trevecca Nazarene (Dec. 7), the Panthers will host Malone and Walsh on Dec. 14 and 16. The Cavaliers also shared the regular season crown with KWU before winning the G-MAC tournament and qualifying for the Division II Dance.

Breaking up conference play before the holidays will be a trip south for two games at Nova Southeastern on Dec. 20 and 21. The Panthers face the Sharks first before squaring off with Barry in a neutral site contest on Day Two. Nova Southeastern went 21-12 last season, advancing to the Elite Eight, which was held in Alumni Hall. The Sharks placed 16th in the final coaches poll.

The January slate features eight games for the Black & Gold. Headlining the stretch will be a home-and-home with Cedarville, as well as a home contest with Hillsdale. Both sides were in the G-MAC Tournament in 2018-19, with the Yellow Jackets matching KWU and WU's conference mark of 18-4.

The Panthers will close the regular season with seven contests in February. Five of those games will be played in Columbus, including the finale against TNU on Feb. 29.

For the teams that qualify, the G-MAC Tournament is set to begin with the quartfinals on Tuesday, March 3. The semifinals and finals will then take place at the highest remaining seed on Friday and Saturday, March 6 and 7.
