COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Ohio Dominican's women's basketball team will look to continue its strong play from last weekend as the Panthers take on Ashland and Lake Erie in GLIAC action this week.
ODU visits Ashland at 5:30 p.m. Thursday and will tip at 1 p.m. Saturday in Painesville against Lake Erie.
Despite splitting the two games played last week, with a setback against Walsh and a win over Malone, the Panthers led for all but 34 seconds in the two contests. ODU shot 50.0 percent from the field (56-of-112) while limiting Walsh and Malone to just 36.1 percent shooting (44-of-122). The Panthers also snatched 14 more rebounds than their opponents and shot a blistering 30-of-34 (88.2 percent) from the charity stripe.
Lauren Bates set a new career high with 18 points against Walsh and averaged 16.5 points on 62.5 percent shooting, along with 4.0 rebounds, on the week. Kacee Hockenberry sank 13-of-14 free throws and averaged 15.0 points and Jackie Oestreich made 11-of-16 shots (68.8 percent) while scoring 11.5 points to go with 4.4 rebounds per contest. Oestreich set a personal best with 14 points in the win against Malone.
The Panthers will look to avenge a pair of defeats to Ashland and Lake Erie earlier this season. In each game, ODU led with about eight minutes left in regulation before faltering down the stretch.
