COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio Dominican women's basketball could not follow up their miracle finish from earlier in the week on Saturday afternoon as they fell to the host Lake Erie Storm, 84-53 in Painesville, Ohio. Lake Erie (16-8) never trailed, jumping out to a quick 16-2 lead and never looked back as they cruised to their eighth straight win.
The Panthers (12-9) struggled offensively out of the gates, as an early lay-up from Abby Glover (So./Centerville, OH) was the only field goal scored for almost six minutes of play. The Storm built their lead to 16-2 until back-to-back baskets from Shelley Warren (So./Solon, OH) cut the lead to 16-6 with 14:09 remaining in the half. Lake Erie regained control and maintained their double-digit lead, as they took a commanding 47-21 advantage to the break.
Looking for another come from behind win, the Panthers could only play even with the Storm as LEC held on for the lopsided win.
Sarah Wojciechowski paced the Storm with a game-high 21 points off the bench. Stephanie Rogers and Renese Ames chipped in with 19 and 18 points, respectively. Rogers adding 10 rebounds for a double-double performance.
The Panthers were led by Warren with 12 points. Kirsten Ruen (Sr./Columbus Grove, OH) and Glover both added 11 points; while Summer Hale (Jr./Galena, OH) finished with 10 points.
ODU will return to action on Tuesday, February 2nd as they play host to Central State University. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m. in Alumni Hall and will be followed by a men's game against Walsh University at 8 p.m.
