INDIANAPOLIS – Fresh off its first Great Midwest Athletic Conference Softball Tournament Championship, Ohio Dominican softball saw two of its members earn recognition from the conference office on Monday afternoon, sweeping Player of the Week honors. Senior Carson Hackerd (Frankfort, Indiana) claimed G-MAC Player of Week honors for the first time in her career, while junior Sydney Long (Ashland, Ohio) captured Pitcher of the Week accolades for the second time this season.
Hackerd feasted on opposing pitching as the Panthers enjoyed success during their time in Findlay last weekend. The Black and Gold senior hit .357 during the G-MAC tournament and provided many clutch moments throughout the event. Her best game came during the third round matchup against Tiffin University on Friday as she collected her 16th multi-hit game of the season and collected three RBIs when she doubled to left-center field to give the Panthers a 3-0 lead.
Long captures pitcher of the week honors for the second time this season and was magnificent in the circle throughout the G-MAC tournament. The junior struck out 23 batters in 27 innings of work and pitched three complete games en route to leading the Black and Gold to its first G-MAC softball tournament championship. She finished the tournament strong, striking out five of the final six batters to lift her team to victory against Trevecca Nazarene on Saturday morning.
As a result of their win, Ohio Dominican has earned a spot in the NCAA Regional Tournament and patiently waits to find out where they will play in the next phase of the postseason.
The NCAA Division II Selection Show takes place Sunday evening.
