Black and Gold Welcomes #5 UIndy For Midweek Doubleheader

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio Dominican softball takes a break from its conference schedule, welcoming fifth-ranked University of Indianapolis to Sunbury Road on Wednesday afternoon for a doubleheader.

The Black and Gold return home to begin their final homestand of the 2021 regular season looking to bounce back after falling in two consecutive games to Trevecca Nazarene on Monday afternoon in Nashville.

ODU is in the top three in two key statistical categories. Senior Kristen Bales (Pickerington, Ohio) leads the Great Midwest Athletic Conference in triples with four for the season. Sophomore Braxton Downs (Prospect, Kentucky) is third-best in the conference with home runs with 10 for the year.

Junior Syndey Long (Ashland, Ohio) is one of the top pitchers in the conference with a 1.85 earned run average. She is also in the top ten in the league in strikeouts with 95 on the season and top ten in wins with 9 on the campaign.

UIndy makes the trip to Columbus in the midst of a successful campaign. The Greyhounds are 34-3 (23-1) in competition this season and are ranked fifth in the most recent NFCA Coaches Poll.

Wednesday's contest marks the sixth time that UIndy will battle an opponent from the G-MAC, with no members claiming victory against the GLVC standard-bearer. Last season, the Panthers fell to a 10th-ranked UIndy in a thrilling 5-4 contest in eight innings.

Senior Haylie Foster leads the Greyhounds in hitting with an average of .387 for the season. She is also tied for the team lead in home runs with five.

UIndy is led by a dynamic duo of pitchers as Hallie Waters and Kenzee Smith have combined for a record of 31-2 on the season.

First pitch from Panther Field is scheduled for 2 PM on Wednesday afternoon.
