COLUMBUS, Ohio – For the second time this season the Ohio Dominican softball team claimed a doubleheader sweep, scoring 16 unanswered runs. The Black and Gold defeated visiting Ohio Valley by the score of 11-0 in the first game and proving victorious by a 5-0 scoreline in game two.

ODU got to work early in the first inning as senior Carson Hackerd (Frankfort, Indiana) tripled to right-center field to lead off the inning. An RBI single to left field from the bat of Braxton Downs (Prospect, Kentucky) would drive in the game's opening run.

The Black and Gold would open things up in the bottom of the third inning as they would strike to hang a crooked number on the scoreboard. ODU extended its lead to 7-0 and got a big contribution from shortstop Alexis Stevens (Marion, Ohio). The first-year player tripled to right field before she would steal home plate to extend the lead.

ODU added another four runs in the bottom of the fourth inning, forcing the Fighting Scots to close the gap. OVU couldn't mount an answer during the next half inning and dropped game one in five innings.

The Panthers returned to work in game two, striking for four runs in the bottom of the first inning. Stevens, joined by Baylee Adams (Cardington, Ohio) and Madison Shemwell (Owensboro, Kentucky) strung together a series of hits that gave the hosts a 4-0 lead.

The advantage would grow by one run as a sacrifice fly off the bat of Olivia Rettke (Reynoldsburg, Ohio) drove in Stevens to give the Black and Gold a 5-0 lead that would prove too much for Ohio Valley to overcome.

ODU takes a break from conference play as they welcome the University of Indianapolis to campus on Wednesday afternoon for a midweek matinee. First pitch of the double header is scheduled for 2 PM.
