COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio Dominican softball returned to action on Saturday afternoon welcoming Walsh University to Sunbury Road. The Black and Gold split the afternoon series claiming the first contest by the score of 6-1 and falling 3-0 in game two.
Seniors Carson Hackard (Frankfort, Indiana) and Kristen Bales (Pickerington, Ohio) were perfect from the plate in the first contest and influential in generating scoring opportunities for the Panthers. Bales got the scoring started in the bottom of the second with an RBI double to give the Black and Gold a 1-0 lead.
Pitcher Sydney Long (Ashland, Ohio) helped her cause by knocking in another run during that same inning to double the host's lead. ODU added three more runs in the bottom of the third with the most exciting play coming when junior Keirah Smetzer (Ashland, Ohio) stole home to give the Black and Gold a 6-0 advantage. Walsh answered with just one run in the top of the 4th as the Panther defense stepped up to lift the hosts to victory.
The Cavalier struck for three runs in the opening two innings to take a 3-0 advantage in game two. Unfortunately, ODU could not answer and would fall by that same scoreline.
The Black and Gold get to stay home next weekend as they welcome Ohio Valley to Sunbury Road. First pitch is scheduled for 1 PM.
