PEPPER PIKE, Ohio – The Ohio Dominican softball team dropped a pair of contests on the road against Ursuline College on Tuesday afternoon. The Black and Gold fell in a pair of close games, dropping game one by the score of 4-3, and game two by the score of 7-6.
ODU rallied from 2-1 down in the fourth inning to take the lead in the seventh inning through some clever hitting from Baylee Adams (Cardington, Ohio) and Alexis Stevens (Marion, Ohio). Adams got a run in as she reached base on an error by the Arrows centerfielder and an RBI single from Stevens drove in a run to give the visitors a 3-2 lead.
Unfortunately, Ursuline orchestrated a late comeback, scoring two runs and securing the win in the first contest.
The visitors got on the board early in the second game as junior Keirah Smetzer (Ashland, Ohio) drew an early-based-loaded walk in the first inning. ODU would see its lead grow to 3-0 as Kristen Bales (Pickerington, Ohio) would drive in two runners as she reached base on an error by the Ursuline shortstop Sara Fessler.
Sophomore Braxton Downs (Prospect, Kentucky) added not one, but two home runs to the scoring fest as the Black and Gold leaped out to a 6-1 advantage. Ursuline continued to chip away at the lead, tying the game in the bottom of the 5th inning. The Arrows claimed the lead in the bottom of the 6th inning and held on to claim the win in the second game.
ODU returns to the friendly confines of Sunbury Road where it battles Malone University on April 9. First pitch is scheduled for 3 PM.
