PAINESVILLE, Ohio – The Ohio Dominican softball team captured its second doubleheader sweep in three days claiming valuable road victories against Lake Erie College on Monday afternoon. The Black and Gold continued to flex its offensive muscle winning by the score of 14-2 in game one and 6-4 in game two.
The Panthers offensive surge began in the 4th inning when pitcher Sydney Long (Ashland, Ohio) helped her own cause, hitting an RBI single to center field driving in two runs. The pitcher swiped second base which set the table for senior Carson Hackerd (Frankfort, Indiana).
ODU's first basemen got a hold of a ball and launched a three-run home run over the outfield fence to swell the lead to 5-0. Freshman Allison Madden (Cincinnati, Ohio) followed with a single and advanced to second on a stolen base.
Sophomore Braxton Downs (Prospect, Kentucky) collected the Black and Gold's second home run of the inning, driving in Madden and swelling the lead to 7-0. The Black and Gold scored another seven runs in the sixth inning tallying 14 total runs overall.
After the dust settled Hackerd finished game one going 2-of-4 with 4 RBIs. In addition to going 2-of-2 from the plate, Long pitched her 10th complete game of the season, striking out four.
The Panthers carried over their offensive prowess to game two, scoring two runs in the top of the first inning. Downs continued her success with an RBI double to center field to give the Black and Gold a 2-0 lead. The sophomore collected her sixth RBI of the afternoon when she drove in Hackerd off of a ground out.
Freshman Baylee Adams (Cardington, Ohio) joined the hit parade collecting an RBI single in the top of the third inning. ODU added two more runs to their tally to open up a 6-0 lead.
Lake Erie would not go quietly as the Storm attempted to mount a comeback, scoring four runs in the bottom of the seventh but the Black and Gold held strong to claim the game two victory and the series sweep.
