Softball Hits The Road Once More To Battle Lake Erie Wednesday

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Just two days removed from their commanding doubleheader sweep over the University of Findlay, the Ohio Dominican softball team hits the road once again to compete in conference play. This time the Panthers head to Northeast Ohio to battle Lake Erie College for a mid-week matinee.

On Monday afternoon, the Black and Gold experienced an offensive outburst that led to them scoring 16 unanswered runs against the Oilers.

Sophomore Madison Shemwell (Owensboro, Kentucky) enjoyed a solid afternoon, going 3-for-7 from the dish and driving in 4 RBIs. Teammate Carson Hackerd (Frankfort, Indiana) went 4-for-8 from the plate and was a factor for many Panther scoring plays during the afternoon.

Pitchers Olivia Rettke (Reynoldsburg, Ohio) and Sydney Long (Ashland, Ohio) combined to pitch 12 scoreless innings and strikeout 10 batters to preserve back-to-back shutout victories.

The Storm comes into Wednesday's contest looking to bounce back following a doubleheader sweep at the hands of the Hillsdale Chargers. Lake Erie was held to six hits during the entire series. Chloe Allen is one of the top hitters for the Storm, hitting .347 during the season. She also has four extra-base hits and five RBIs.

Pitcher Grace Hammer is Lake Erie's top choice in the circle. The sophomore has logged 66 innings so far this season and has struck out 65 batters.

First pitch from Painesville is scheduled for 2 PM on Wednesday afternoon with the second game of the doubleheader scheduled to begin at approximately 4 PM.
