COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio Dominican softball team fell in two games to Grand Valley State University on Saturday afternoon at Panther Field in Columbus, Ohio. The Black and Gold fought valiantly but fell in eight innings by the score of 1-0 in game one.
Junior Sydney Long (Ashland, Ohio) pitched eight innings and struck out six but the Panthers only mustered up four hits and couldn't capitalize on offensive opportunities, leaving seven runners on base.
An RBI groundout by the Lakers in the eighth gave the Lakers the 1-0 advantage and allowed pitcher Hannah Beatus to nullify a late run from the Black and Gold to claim the win.
It took four innings for either team to score in game two but an RBI triple from the Lakers gave the visitors a 4-0 advantage. An RBI double from senior Kristen Bales (Pickerington, Ohio) closed the gap to 4-1 but that's as close as the teams would get as Grand Valley maintained the lead over the Panthers to claim the victory in game two.
ODU returns to action next Saturday to begin conference play at Tiffin University. First pitch from Northwest Ohio is scheduled for 1 PM.
