Softball Heads to the G-MAC Tournament This Week in Akron



COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio Dominican's softball team heads to the Great Midwest Athletic Conference Tournament this Thursday through Saturday at Firestone Stadium in Akron, Ohio.

The Panthers come in as the No. 1 seed overall as they clinched the regular season championship with a 21-5 conference record and a 32-20 overall record.

The Panther pitching staff has been stellar all season led by freshman Sydney Long (Ashland, Ohio) and junior Cameron Barber (Powell, Ohio). They each have 139 innings pitched this season with Barber leading the Panthers with a 16-8 record throwing 10 complete games while Long is 13-6 with 16 complete games. Long has thrown four complete game shutouts including a no-hitter March 19 against Cedarville and Barber has thrown two complete game shutouts while being a part of two others.

Last week, Barber was named the G-MAC Pitcher of the Week after going 3-0 with a 0.64 ERA with a season-high 11 strikeouts against Malone. Barber struck out 30 batters while not allowing a walk in her three games as she has a 7.2:1 strikeout-to-walk ratio overall this season.

At the plate, Barber is hitting .331 with a slugging percentage of .563 as she has six home runs, 11 doubles and two triples while driving in 37 runs which is second on the team.

Junior Landry Slider (Stow, Ohio) has led the Panther offense hitting in the three spot most of the season as she leads the team with a .374 batting average while driving in 39 runs. Senior Kelly Mix (Baltimore, Ohio) has hit .352 this season including a .390 clip in conference play including a .701 slugging percentage in the G-MAC.

Taylor Farmer (Mt. Blanchard, Ohio) has hit a team-high 10 home runs this season while driving in 28 runs while sophomore Kristen Bales (Pickerington, Ohio) has hit .350 with six homers while driving in 36 runs.

The No.1 seed Panthers match up with No. 8 seed Hillsdale in game one of the tournament as they play at 10 a.m. at Firestone Stadium in Akron, Ohio. Earlier this season the Panthers swept the Chargers on the road with final scores of 8-4 and 7-6.
