COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio Dominican's softball team split with Ashland for the second time this year dropping game one 3-0 before snagging game two 6-4 Wednesday evening at Panther Field.
ODU currently sits seventh in the Midwest region as they move to 25-18 overall this season.
Carson Hackerd (Frankfort, Indiana) led the way for the Panther offense with four hits on the day including a 3-for-3 effort in game two with a pair of RBI's and two runs scored.
After a scoreless first inning in game two, the Panthers broke through for five runs in the second inning. Hackerd began the scoring with a double out to left center that brought around Keirah Smetzer (Ashland, Ohio) and Kristen Bales (Pickerington, Ohio). Two batters later, Landry Slider (Stow, Ohio) singled down the right field line that brought around Hackerd. Then, Kelly Mix (Baltimore, Ohio) singled that brought Brooklyn Rayburn (Pickerington, Ohio) making the score 4-0. To end the inning, Mix was able to get in a rundown between first and second that brought Slider in to score.
Ashland would come back with three runs in the top half of the fourth but ODU would answer with a run on a Mix sacrifice fly in the bottom half.
Ashland would score once in the seventh to make it 6-4 but Barber was able to close the door to end the game.
Cameron Barber (Powell, Ohio) earned the win in the circle throwing her seventh complete game giving up four runs on seven hits with five strikeouts.
In game one, ODU could only muster three hits while Ashland scored in the fourth and twice in the sixth to earn the 3-0 win.
Sydney Long (Ashland, Ohio) took the loss in the circle for the Panthers giving up three runs, two earned, on six hits with five strikeouts.
The Panthers have a quick turnaround as they host Walsh in G-MAC action tomorrow at Panther Field with first pitch of game one coming at 2 p.m.
