Offense Stumbles as Softball Drops a Pair on Opening Day

HUNTSVILLE, Alabama – Ohio Dominican's softball team dropped their 2019 season opening games by a final score of 8-3 against Union (TN.) and 4-0 against West Alabama Friday evening in the Charger Chillout in Huntsville, Alabama.

In game one, the Panthers were unable to convert after a pair of hits in the fourth inning down 1-0 and Union jumped on the opportunity as they scored five times in the top half of the fifth.

ODU would answer in the bottom half of the fifth with a pair of runs as junior Landry Slider (Stow, Ohio) singled to center which scored Carson Hackerd (Frankfort, Indiana). Later in the inning, Taylor Farmer (Mt. Blanchard, Ohio) had her second hit of the day into left field that scored Keirah Smetzer (Ashland, Ohio) to cut the Panther deficit to 6-2.

Union would score twice more in the seventh while ODU would score once on a groundout from Slider.

Game two saw the Panther offense only manage two hits as Farmer got her third hit of the day and Kelly Mix (Baltimore, Ohio) were the only two to manage hits.

The Tigers took a 2-0 lead in the second inning as they took advantage of two Panther errors and advanced that lead to 4-0 in the fourth inning.

ODU looks to bounce back as they play a pair of games tomorrow against Shorter at 11 a.m. CT and Montevallo at 1 p.m. CT in the Charger Chillout.
