Softball Splits At No. 24 Wayne State, Kline Steals 100th Career Base

DETROIT, Mich. — Freshman pitcher Cameron Barber (Powell, Ohio) struck out Wayne State's Lindsay Butler to end the game and put the finishing touch on a 3-1 win over No. 24 Wayne State in game two of a GLIAC doubleheader on Saturday in which junior Taylor Kline (Bellville, Ohio) recorded the 100th stolen base of her career.

The Panthers (25-19, 12-6 GLIAC) have won eight of their last nine contests and are 9-5 in the month of April. Kline leads the GLIAC with 32 stolen bases this season and has stolen nine bases in her last six games.

In game two, Barber went the distance to win her fifth game of the season and earn the 3-1 win over the Warriors. Kline went 1-for-1 at the plate, stole her 100th base and drew three walks on the day. Junior Liz Sutter (Mansfield, Ohio) finished 2-for-3 and freshman Taylor Farmer (Mt. Blanchard, Ohio) recorded a hit for the fifth-straight contest for ODU.

Trailing 1-0 in the bottom of the third with one out and the bases loaded, senior Casey Murdoch (Morrow, Ohio) recorded a sacrifice fly to score Kline from third and tie the game at 1-1.

In the bottom of the fifth, Kline drew a walk to lead off the inning, then advanced to third in the next at bat after a single through the left side by Sutter. Two batters later, Kline would score on a wild pitch, giving the Panthers their first lead of the day, 2-1.

ODU would extend its advantage in the bottom of the sixth with two outs, as Barber scored on another wild pitch to give the Panthers a 3-1 lead through six, and in the top of the seventh, Barber shut the door on a Warrior comeback, striking out Butler to end the game and earn the win, 3-1.

The Panthers fell in game one of the doubleheader by a final score of 3-0. Kline recorded a hit for the 18th-straight game and sophomore Abby Lamping (Cleves, Ohio) went the distance in the circle for ODU, allowing just three runs for the contest.
