Softball Falls To Kentucky Wesleyan And McKendree

EVANSVILLE, Ind. — Ohio Dominican's softball team dropped a pair of contests to Kentucky Wesleyan and McKendree on Friday at the Midwest Region Crossover at the University of Southern Indiana, falling 4-3 to Kentucky Wesleyan and 8-2 to McKendree.

Against KWU, Ohio Dominican (3-5, 0-0 GLIAC) recorded three runs on five hits, but saw Kentucky Wesleyan rally for a 4-3 victory. Juniors Taylor Kline (Bellville, Ohio) and Liz Sutter (Mansfield, Ohio) each went 2-for-4 in the contest, with Kline also recording a stolen base. Sophomore Kelly Mix (Baltimore, Ohio) finished with two RBIs, and senior Casey Murdoch (Morrow, Ohio) and freshman Jordan Nichols (Peotone, Illinois) also recorded RBIs for the Panthers.

ODU jumped out to an early lead after Mix reached on a fielder's choice in the top of the first inning, with a throwing error by the shortstop allowing Nichols to reach second and Sutter and Kline to score to give Ohio Dominican a 2-0 lead.

With the bases loaded once again in the top of the third, Murdoch's patience at the plate earned a walked and scored senior Kelly Wallace (Oshkosh, Wisconsin) to increase Ohio Dominican's advantage to 3-0.

But Kentucky Wesleyan scored two runs in the bottom of the third to cut the deficit to 3-2 and then rallied with two runs in the bottom of the seventh to earn a 4-3 win over Ohio Dominican.

In the second game of the day, ODU fell to McKendree by a final score of 8-2. The Panthers recorded eight hits compared to five for McKendree.

Kline led ODU at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one RBI. Mix recorded her second home run of the season. Murdoch went 2-for-3, and Wallace finished 2-for-4 for Ohio Dominican.

After three scoreless innings, ODU struck in the top of the fourth after a solo home run by Mix put Ohio Dominican on the board, 1-0.

The Panthers trailed 4-1 heading into the top of the fifth, but an RBI triple by Kline scored Murdoch and cut ODU's deficit to 4-2.

But McKendree outscored the Panthers 4-0 for the remainder of the contest to earn an 8-2 victory.

Ohio Dominican will continue play in the Midwest Region Crossover over on Saturday when it faces Southern Indiana at 2 p.m. EST/1 p.m. CST and Truman at 4 p.m. EST/3 p.m. CST.
