TOWSON, Md. – On Thursday, Ohio Dominican junior Taylor Thomas (Bellville, Ohio) was named to the 2014 Capital One Academic All-America NCAA Division II Softball First Team, as voted upon the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
An intervention specialist with a 3.69 GPA, Thomas finished the regular season with a team-leading .404 batting average, 34 RBI, 14 doubles and nine homeruns to help lead the Panthers to a 25-25 overall record and 21-5 in the conference.
Thomas joins Grand Valley's Miranda Cleary, Sara Andraskik, Northwood's Stacey Klonowski, Tiffin's Cassandra Brown, and Wayne State's Logan White as the only GLIAC schools to earn such honors.
To be eligible for Academic All-America® consideration, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative G.P.A. of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her current institution and be nominated by his/her sports information director.
