BAY CITY, Mich. – For the second consecutive week, freshman Allie Hinton (Newcomerstown, Ohio) and junior Rachael Stanzel (Angleton, Texas/Angleton) have been chosen as the GLIAC Softball "Player of the Week" and "Pitcher of the Week", respectively.
Hinton helped guide the Panthers to a 4-0 weekend in GLIAC play, including a sweep over No. 6 nationally ranked Wayne State. The youngster went 7-for-15 with five RBI from the plate for a batting average of .467 and a slugging percentage of .733. Her two-out, two-RBI in the bottom of the first inning in game one against the Warriors gave the Panthers the lead to eventually shutout Wayne State 3-0. Hinton ranks first in the conference in hits with 18, fifth in RBI (11), and eighth in slugging percentage (.778).
Stanzel went 3-0 over the weekend, where she threw 21.0 innings for the Panthers. Stanzel threw 14 innings in the two win shutouts over No. 6 Wayne State. Stanzel allowed just combined five hits in the doubleheader for a weekend ERA of 0.67. In the GLIAC Stanzel ranks fifth in wins with eight, while also being in sixth in strikeouts with 58.
