WINTER HAVEN, Fla. – The Ohio Dominican softball team dropped a pair of games at the Rebel Spring Games on Thursday, March 13 to Maryville (MO) and to LIU Post (NY).
The Panthers are now 3-15 on the season.
In the 4-0 shutout loss against Maryville, the Saints scored three runs in the first two innings to take a 3-0 lead over the Panthers.
ODU tried to rally in the bottom of the fifth, putting runners on second and third with one out. However, the Saints pitching staff and defense retired the Panthers offense without any damage done.
Maryville scored one more run in the top of the sixth to extend the lead to 4-0.
Sophomore Kelsey Albanese (Westerville, Ohio) registered two hits for ODU, going 2-for-3 from the plate.
In the 5-2 loss to the LIU Post Pioneers in game two, the Panthers struck first in the top of the second after junior Devan Audette (Bronson, Mich.) reached on a fielding error by the shortstop to score junior Alex Cribari (Lyndhurst, Ohio), who also reached after a bunt single.
In the bottom of the inning, LIU Post evened the score after a double by Paige Swantek.
ODU hit in the go-ahead run to go up 2-1 in the top of third after freshman Casey Murdoch (Morrow, Ohio) reached on a throwing error to score junior Kelsey Seeds (Westerville, Ohio). Seeds led the inning off with a single to left field, and then successfully swiped second.
In the bottom of the fourth, the Pioneers scored a run to knot the score one more when Kayla McCoy hit a sacrifice fly to left field.
The bottom of the sixth saw LIU Post pull away, scoring three runs to go ahead 5-2 and hang onto the lead in the top of the seventh to seal the victory.
Seeds went 2-for-4 from the plate while Audette, Cribari, and freshman Sommer Mark (DeLand, Fla.) each added a hit.
