WINTER HAVEN, Fla. – Day four of the Rebel Spring Games was not kind to the Ohio Dominican softball team as the Panthers dropped a pair of Tuesday games to St. Cloud State, 7-6 and No. 5 Augustana (S.D.) 3-1.
The Panthers are now 3-13 on the season.
After a quiet first two innings in game one, St. Cloud State scored three runs in the bottom of the third, thanks to a two-out single by Stephanie Roan.
Ohio Dominican scored a run in the top of the fourth to cut the lead to 3-1. Junior Caitlin Jividen (Wheeling, W. Va.) drew a leadoff walk and advanced to second after a failed pickoff attempt. Junior Taylor Thomas (Bellville, Ohio) singled to center field and advanced on the throw home, as Jividen scored.
The Huskies extended their lead to 4-1 in the bottom of the fourth thanks to an RBI single by Emma Hodges. The Panthers cut the lead in half, 4-2 in the top of the fifth inning after sophomore Lizzy Weber (Canton, Ohio) singled to right center. Freshman Allie Hinton (Newcomerstown, Ohio) hit a sacrifice bunt to advance Weber and freshman Sommer Mark (DeLand, Fla.) drew a walk. Sophomore Montana Fishel (Gahanna, Ohio) singled to load the bases for ODU. Jividen drew a walk, scoring Weber.
In the top of the sixth, the Panthers used a three-run inning to go up 5-4. Freshman Kelly Wallace (Oshkosh, Wisc.) hit a leadoff single to right field. Junior Kelsey Seeds (Westerville, Ohio) reached on an error by the infield, putting runners on first and second and no outs. Weber singled up the middle and advanced to third on the throw at home, allowing Albanese, who pinch ran for Wallace, and Seeds to score. Junior Alex Cribari (Lyndhurst, Ohio) hit a bunt single to score Weber.
St. Cloud State evened the score in the bottom of the sixth after a single by Tricia DeBoer singled up the middle.
Tied 5-5 after seven, Seeds singled up the middle in the top of the eighth to score Wallace, who was placed on second thanks to the international tie breaker rule, who advanced to third on a wild pitch.
As the designated home team, the Huskies, scored two runs in the bottom of the eighth to end the game thanks to a sacrifice fly by DeBoer and a single by Abby Bunnell.
Weber led the Panthers at the plate, going 2-for-4 with an RBI.
Against the No. 5 Augustana, the Panthers managed to keep the game scoreless through the first inning, but the Vikings struck in the top of the second when Emily Heinz doubled to right center.
In the top of the third, the Vikings tacked on two more runs to lead the Panthers 3-0 after a two-RBI single by Jenelle Trautmann.
ODU scored its lone run in the bottom of the fourth inning after a Cribari single to center field.
Ohio Dominican will have the day off on Wednesday, March 11 and will resume play on Thursday, March 13 against Maryville (MO) and top-25 ranked LIU Post.
