NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Due to inclement weather last week, the Panthers had to cancel its trip to the University of Southern Indiana Spring Classic Tournament. ODU hopes for better conditions this weekend for a trip to Nashville, Tenn. for a double header against Trevecca Nazarene.
The Panthers are coming off a 1-5 showing at the University of Alabama Huntsville Ringor Charger Chillout Tournament. Their lone victory came against Kentucky Wesleyan 3-2. Offensively in the victory, the Panthers were led by sophomore Kelsey Albanese (Westerville, Ohio), who was 1-for-3 from the plate with two RBI. Junior Kelsey Seeds (Westerville, Ohio), sophomore Lizzy Weber (Canton, Ohio), and junior Taylor Thomas (Bellville, Ohio) all had two hits. Freshman Brooke Myers (Orlando, Fla.) picked up her first career win.
The Trojans (6-3) of Trevecca Nazarene were tabbed as the team to beat in the first ever Great Midwest Athletic Conference softball preseason poll. In 2013, TNU posted a 29-12 record and was a perfect 12-0 in the G-MAC. All-conference performers in Kelsey Kemp, Mackenzie Leding, Heather Shuler, and Shelby Andrews return for the Trojans.
TNU will travel to Bethel University and Austin Peay on February 25 and 27 before welcoming the Panthers on Saturday, March 1.
ODU last met the Trojans in 2007 when both teams were an affiliate of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA). TNU swept both games, winning game one 13-2 and taking game two 11-8.
ODU's home opener at Panther Softball Field is Wednesday, Mar. 26, with a doubleheader against North Alabama beginning at 2 p.m.
