Softball Lands Four in Early Signing Period

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Earlier last week, Ohio Dominican Softball Coach Marcella Vanlandingham announced the signing of three Ohio and one Indiana high school seniors, for the class of 2014. The foursome was inked during the NCAA's recent early signing period.

Taylor Kline, a 5'1 middle infielder, is from Bellville, Ohio, where she plays for the Clear Fork High School Colts. Kline has been named to the Ohio Cardinal Conference First Team in 2011, All-Conference First Team, OCC Player of the Year, and Division II Northwest District First team in 2012. This past season, Kline was named the OCC Player of the Year, All-Conference First Team, First Team All-District, and First Team All-Ohio. She also set a new state record for stolen bases in a season, swiping 72. She is undecided on a major.

Haley Starr, a 5'2 infielder and outfielder, hails from Carroll, Ohio where she is a three year letterwinner for the Bloom Carroll Bulldogs. Starr has been selected to the Mid State League (MSL) First Team and was Second Team District selection. She was also an Honorable Mention All-State Metro selection. Starr has been on a Bulldog team that finished as the Division III state runner-up in 2012 and was the state champions in Division III in 2013. Off the field, Starr has been on the Bloom Carroll honor roll for the past four years and plans on studying early childhood education at Ohio Dominican.

Rounding out the Ohio signee's for the class of 2014 is Bailey Miller. Miller, a 5'11 pitcher and first baseman, is from Cincinnati, Ohio where she plays for the Glen Este Trojans. She was the Eastern Cincinnati Conference home run leader her sophomore and junior year. As a freshman, she was named to the All-Conference Second Team and was a First Team selection her sophomore and junior years. Outside of softball, Miller is a three-year scholar athlete, and is actively involved in Student Council, and the National Honor Society.

Hayley Earl, a 5'4 pitcher and infielder, is from Dyer, Ind., where she plays for the Marian Catholic Spartans. As a sophomore, she was named to the East Suburban Catholic All-Conference team and has been a three-year varsity starter on the softball team. She plans on studying middle childhood education and math at ODU.

"Our 2014 class is starting to take shape and appears to be a very strong group of players," said coach Vanlandingham. "I have enjoyed recruiting this group and the more I get to know them the more I like about them. I believe they are going to mesh well with our returning players.
