COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio Dominican's men's soccer team tied with Malone after 110 minutes with a final score of 2-2 in Great Midwest Athletic Conference action Saturday evening in Panther Stadium.
The Panthers jumped on the Pioneers in the first minute as sophomore Amadou Mamadou (Columbus, Ohio) scored within the first 40 seconds to put ODU up 1-0.
Malone would eventually knot the game up in the 20th minute taking advantage of a Panther miscue in the box leading to a penalty kick for the Pioneers which they converted. At the half, both ODU and Malone each had eight shots with each team having three corner kicks in the half.
After a scoreless first 31 minutes in the second half, a shot from Khalif Hassan (Columbus, Ohio) ricocheted off the Pioneer goalkeeper and Cooper Johnson (Urbana, Ohio) followed up the miss slotting his shot in the lower left of the net for the Panthers to take a 2-1 advantage.
Malone would tie the game in the 88th minute and the contest would go into overtime after the Panthers outshot Malone 10-4 in the half.
In the first overtime period, neither team would be able to grab an advantage as the Panthers had the only two shots of the period with neither on goal and the Panthers and Pioneers needed 10 more minutes.
In the second overtime period, ODU outshot Malone 4-1 and had a 2-0 advantage in corner kicks but was unable to convert on those chances and the time expired with neither team finding an advantage.
Freshman goalkeeper Russell Montemarano (Westerville, Ohio) had six saves on the night on the eight Pioneer shots on goal. Mamadou led the Panther offense striking six shots with five of the Panther eight shots on goal.
The Panthers return to action Halloween night hosting Kentucky Wesleyan at 5 p.m. inside Panther Stadium.
