INDIANAPOLIS – Junior Jaxson Szabo (Worthington, Ohio) of Ohio Dominican's men's soccer team was named the Great Midwest Offensive Player of the Week as announced by the conference office Monday afternoon.
Szabo scored all five Panther goals over the two games as ODU finished 1-1 on the week losing a 3-2 overtime contest at Kentucky Wesleyan before defeating Trevecca 3-2 on Saturday.
The junior midfielder led a ferocious comeback against Kentucky Wesleyan late in the second half. Down 2-0, Szabo found the back of the net twice to send the game into overtime.
Against Trevecca Nazarene, Szabo converted on a hat trick in the first half. Senior Cameron Christian (Pataskala, Ohio) found a streaking Szabo just 42 seconds into the game to put ODU up 1-0. After a Trojan foul in the box, Szabo stepped to the spot and scorched a ball to the lower right corner past the goalkeeper. He clinched his hat trick in the 38th minute as Carter Patchett (Dublin, Ohio) found Szabo.
Szabo's hat trick was enough for the Panthers to hold on for the win and earn Coach Willy Merrick his 100th career win.
Szabo and the rest of the men's soccer team will host Alderson Broaddus Thursday, October 3 at Panther Stadium with kickoff set for 7:30 p.m.
