COLUMBUS, Ohio - After falling to nationally ranked Ashland University Friday evening, the Ohio Dominican men's soccer team regrouped and closed out its home stand with a 2-1 victory fellow GLIAC newcomer, Lake Erie College, on Sunday afternoon.
The Panthers got on the board first at the 25:20 mark in the first half when Andrew Edler (So./Hilliard, OH) received a cross from classmate Justin Wheeler (Gahanna, OH), took one dribble left and drilled the score into the right half of the net from just inside the box.
A penalty kick by the Storm's Marco Gaudio in the 30th minute, squared the game at 1-1.
ODU continued to fire away and in the 75th minute of the second half, Liam Fitzgerald (Sr./Hudson, OH) gathered a header from Wheeler and dropped the ball off to Felix Darko (Jr./Reynoldsburg, OH;pictured) who would not miss the eventual game winner from eight yards out.
Darko leads the Panthers with two goals and five points through five games this season.
ODU outshot Lake Erie 24-8 overall, including 14-5 in the second and finished with a 7-1 advantage on corner opportunities.
The Panthers, now 4-1-0 overall and 3-1-0 in the GLIAC, will travel to Tiffin, Ohio this Friday, Sept. 24 for a 4:30 p.m. match with the Tiffin Dragons. LEC, now 0-6-0, will travel to Mercyhurst on Tuesday, Sept. 21 for the fourth contest of a current six-game road trip.
