COLUMBUS - The Ohio Dominican Panthers men's basketball team closed the season series with the Cedarville Yellow Jackets on Thursday (Jan. 12) evening at Alumni Hall.
The Panthers got a career-high 23 points from Jarius Jones (Gahanna, Ohio) but Cedarville won the game 80-53 as the Panthers dropped to 5-10 overall and 2-7 in conference play.
BOX SCORE NOTES
- Jones finished with 23 points on ten-of-18 shooting as he made his seventh start of the season. The junior was tied for the team lead with eight rebounds along with two assists and a block. He scored nine points in the first half before totaling 14 in the second period.
- Zach Szul (Waterville, Ohio) scored seven points, making three field goals (one three pointer) with three rebounds.
- Marcus Johnson (Columbus, Ohio) came off the bench with six points and eight rebounds.
- Ethan Haynes (Florence, Kentucky) was tied with Szul with seven points and four boards.
- Ohio Dominican shot 34.4% from the floor, making 22-of-64 shots overall. The Panthers were nearly even between halves, 34.5% (10-29) in the first and 34.3% (12-35) in the second 20 minutes.
- ODU made six three pointers, tied with the Cedarville Yellow Jackets.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Cedarville opened with a 3-0 lead before Haynes drilled his only three pointer of the game at the 18:47 mark, tying the game at three.
- Cedarville scored the next six points for a 9-3 lead, until the Panthers got the next five points to close to 9-8 with 14:28 left.
- Jones had a three-point play while Keshawn Heard (Newark, Ohio) made a jumper during the run.
- Over the next five minutes, Cedarville pushed the lead to eight twice but Mike Knoll (Medina, Ohio) and Szul hit threes to pull within four, 20-16 with 7:27 left before halftime.
- The Yellow Jackets closed the first half with a 38-25 lead at halftime.
- After Cedarville scored the first six points of the half to get a 44-25 lead, ODU got the lead down to 15 twice.
- Cedarville finished with an 80-53 victory.

Ohio Dominican will head on the road to the state of Michigan to face the G-MAC leading Hillsdale Chargers, ranked tenth in the NABC Poll and eighth in the D2SIDA Poll. Tipoff on Saturday (Jan. 14) is set for 3:00 PM at Dawn Tibbetts Potter Arena.
