COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio Dominican's men's basketball team defeated Hillsdale in Great Midwest Athletic Conference action by a final score of 68-55 Saturday afternoon in Alumni Hall.
Junior Hasan Varence (Queens, New York) had a monster double-double with 21 points and 21 rebounds where he played all 40 minutes to lead ODU.
Also in double figures was Sophomore Michael Scott (Hebron, Kentucky) finished with 12 points and four assists while also having three steals. Senior Ben Casanova (Sylvania, Ohio) finished with 10 points and six rebounds.
ODU opened the contest take a 17-10 lead as Varence had nine points in the first five and a half minutes. The Panthers would advance that lead out to 12 at 24-12 on a Scott jumper and would keep an 11-point lead into the half at 32-21.
Varence notched the double-double in the first half as he had 11 points and 12 boards.
Hillsdale came out of the half and cut the Panther lead to seven at 36-29 but the Panthers would push their lead back to 12 at 47-35 with 13:58 remaining on a Ryan Hoyng (Celina, Ohio) triple.
The Chargers would cut their deficit to six at 47-41 on the back of a 6-0 run but an 11-1 run by ODU to answer would give the Panthers their largest lead of the game at 16 with 6:44 remaining.
Hillsdale would not get the game back into single digits as Scott was 4-for-5 at the line over the last two minutes to seal the win.
ODU shot 28-of-61 (46%) in the win while holding Hillsdale to just 24-for-63 (38%) and 3-for-22 (14%) from three.
The Panthers finish the regular season at Ohio Valley on Saturday, March 2 with tip set for 3 p.m.
