COLUMBUS, Ohio – Junior Sam Hickey (Toledo, Ohio) set the ODU record with 10 made three pointers in a game as the Ohio Dominican men's basketball team defeated Davis & Elkins by a final score of 117-82 Saturday afternoon in Alumni Hall.
The Panthers also set the team record for three pointers in a game with 19 as they were 19-for-40 (47.5%) in the contest. The 40 attempts is also the most attempts in ODU history.
Hickey led the way for the Panthers scoring a career-high 32 points while also grabbing seven rebounds and dishing out five assists.
Hasan Varence (Queens, New York) notched his 12th double-double of the season as he poured in 26 points and grabbed 11 rebounds.
ODU had three others in double-figures as freshman Arius Jones (Fort Wayne, Indiana) had 10 points along with eight rebounds and six assists while Ben Casanova (Sylvania, Ohio) had 10 points, nine rebounds and four assists and Tahj Curry (Fort Wayne, Indiana) also had 10 points.
The Panthers also had a season-high 30 assists on the afternoon as five players had at least four assists.
ODU jumped on the Senators in the first ten minutes shooting 17-of-23 and 10-for-12 from three to open up a 48-9 lead. During that stretch, D&E shot 4-for-20 (20%) and 0-of-9 from three.
The Panthers scored their most points in a half this season as they took a 64-25 lead into the locker room as they shot 55.6% (25-for-45) from the floor and 54.5% from behind the arc (12-for-22).
ODU garnered its largest lead of the game at 115-69 on a Colby Watson (Cable, Ohio) layup with 2:23 remaining.
The Panthers remain at home next week as they host Hillsdale on Thursday, February 21 with tip set for 7:30 p.m. at Alumni Hall.
