COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio Dominican's men's basketball team dropped a Great Midwest Athletic Conference contest against Malone by a final score of 76-66 Thursday evening in Alumni Hall.
The loss snaps an 11-game home winning streak for the Panthers as they drop to 12-8 on the season and 8-5 in the conference while Malone advances to 12-8 with a 7-6 record in the G-MAC.
The Panthers were led by sophomore Tahj Curry (Fort Wayne, Indiana) tallying 18 points and grabbing seven rebounds.
Sam Hickey (Toledo, Ohio) notched 13 points while Hasan Varence (Queens, New York) recorded his ninth double-double with 10 points and 13 rebounds. Ben Casanova (Sylvania, Ohio) recorded his second straight and third of four games in double-figures as he finished with 10 points.
Malone started the game making eight of their first 11 shots and jumped out to a 19-8 lead over the Panthers with 12:58 remaining in the half.
A 12-4 Panther run sparked by eight points from Curry cut the Panther deficit to three at 23-20 with 8:23 to go in the first 20 minutes.
ODU would take their first lead since 6-5 at 27-26 at the 4:14 mark. The game would then be tied at 29 and 31before Malone took a 34-32 lead in the locker room.
Malone came out the locker room and extended their lead to five at 39-34 before a 9-0 Panther run gave ODU a 43-39 lead with 14:43 remaining in the contest.
With the game knotted at 50 at the 8:40 mark, Malone would go on a 13-6 run over the next five minutes and 16 seconds and take a 63-56 lead which was a lead they would not relinquish.
Malone had five players in double-figures led by Nate Sheppard with 20 points.
ODU is back at home as they take on Walsh on Saturday, February 2 here at Alumni Hall with tip set for 3 p.m.
