Men's Basketball Travels to Cedarville and Tiffin as G-MAC Play Continues

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Ohio Dominican's men's basketball team gets set for a pair of Great Midwest Athletic Conference road contests this week at Cedarville and at Tiffin.

The matchup with Cedarville is set for Thursday evening at 7:45 p.m. in the Callan Athletic Center while the contest with Tiffin is to tip at 3 p.m. in the Gillmor Student Center.

The Panthers come into the week with an 11-6 record and a 7-3 record in the G-MAC after a pair of home wins against Kentucky Wesleyan and Trevecca Nazarene.

ODU defeated KWC by a final score of 66-58 and defeated Trevecca by a final score of 78-47. The 47 points given up is the least amount of points given up by an ODU defense since 2006 where they gave up 48 in a win over Walsh.

In the win over Trevecca, Sam Hickey (Toledo, Ohio) and Hasan Varence (Queens, New York) became the first juniors since Mike Fiebig in 2004 to score 1,000 points.

The Panther offense is averaging 79.7 points per game led by Hickey averaging 17.8 points per game. Varence has recorded seven consecutive double-doubles where he has averaged 19 points and 16.4 rebounds in those seven contests.

Junior Michael Scott (Hebron, Kentucky) has provided a spark off the ODU bench setting up teammates as he has had at least five assists in five of the last seven games. Scott is fifth in the conference averaging 4.1 assists per contest in 21.2 minutes while averaging an assist-to-turnover ratio of 1.89 which is eighth in the conference.

On the glass, ODU is first in the conference and fifth in the country in rebound margin at +9.9 and are second in the conference and 24th in the country in rebounds per game at 40.94 per contest. Varence is leading the country in defensive rebounds with 9.64 per game and is second in the country in rebounds per game with 12.4 per game.

The Panther defense allowed its two lowest point totals of the season this past week and are allowing opponents to score 71.0 points per game while their opponents shoot just 43.0%.

About Cedarville

The Jackets come into the week with a 10-8 overall record and a 7-3 conference record after a pair of wins last week over Alderson Broaddus and Davis & Elkins.

The Yellow Jackets are 6-2 this year at home and are averaging 80.1 points per game while shooting 47.5% from the floor. Also on the offensive end, Cedarville is averaging 16.3 assists per game on 28.8 made shots.

Cedarville has four players averaging double-figures led by Conner TenHove with 16.3 points per contest while Branden Maughmer is just behind with 14.4. Grant Zawadaski and Kollin Van Horn also give the Jackets 11.8 and 11.1 points per game, respectively.

The Jacket defense is giving up 73.9 points per contest while their opponents shoot 44.8% from the floor.

About Tiffin

Tiffin is coming into the week with an overall record of 6-12 and are 2-8 in the conference while splitting last week with a win against Davis & Elkins and a loss to Alderson Broaddus.

Four of the Dragons six wins have come on their home floor with a record of 4-5. In their eight conference losses, they have been outscored by just 8.75 points per contest including five losses of seven points or less.

Tiffin is averaging 85.4 points per game on offense on 47.5% shooting and is led by Joshua Williams with 18.6 points per game while Shane Waldon is averaging 16.6. Also in double-figures for the Dragons is Austin Adams with 13.8 points and Luke Rightnowar with 11.0 points per game.

Defensively, Tiffin is giving up 87.2 points per game and allowing their opponents to shot 50.8% from the floor while also having a rebound margin of -3.8.

Before the Dragons host ODU on Saturday, they play host to Ohio Valley on Thursday.
