Late Score Spells Doom for Men's Basketball at Hillsdale

HILLSDALE, Mich. – Ohio Dominican's men's basketball team dropped a close contest with Hillsdale by the final score of 67-65 Saturday afternoon at the Dawn Tibbetts Potter Arena.

The Panthers were led by senior Ryan Hoyng (Celina, Ohio) who posted 21 points on 8-for-13 shooting and 4-of-5 from three while also having five assists and four rebounds.

Junior Sam Hickey (Toledo, Ohio) was also in double-figures posting 15 points and grabbing six rebounds while fellow junior Michael Simon (Hilliard, Ohio) posted 12 points and grabbed seven rebounds.

The first half saw ODU gain an 11-6 lead at the 12:39 mark before Hillsdale would get within one at 16-15 with 10:22 remaining. A 9-2 Panther run pushed the ODU lead to 25-17 on a Hoyng jumper with &:45 remaining in the half.

The Panthers would push that lead out to nine at 37-28 on a Hickey layup with 2:04 in the half and a 7-3 run from Hillsdale closed the half with the Panthers leading 40-35.

Both teams struggled scoring to start the final 20 minutes as the score was 51-50 in favor of ODU with 9:29 remaining in the contest.

The teams would trade the lead back-and-forth up to a 59-59 tie with 6:23 remaining in the contest.

The Panthers once again tied the game at 65-65 on a Tahj Curry (Fort Wayne, Indiana) layup but a Hillsdale layup with 27 seconds gave the Chargers the lead and the win as a Curry jumper went begging as the buzzer sounded.

ODU drops to 9-6 overall and 5-3 in the G-MAC while Hillsdale advances to 11-5 and 7-2 in the conference.

The Panthers return home after the road trip to host Kentucky Wesleyan on Thursday, January 17 with tip set for 7:30 p.m. in Alumni Hall.
