Men’s Basketball Travels To Cedarville For Saturday Night Match-Up

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Ohio Dominican's men's basketball team will face Cedarville on Saturday night inside the Callan Athletic Center at 7:45 p.m. in a Great Midwest Athletic Conference game as the race for the conference tournament continues.

The Panthers (12-10, 7-8 G-MAC) are currently in eighth place in the Great Midwest with Cedarville (11-11, 6-9 G-MAC) sitting just behind in ninth with five games left in the regular season for both squads. Saturday night's game will mark the last road contest of the season for Ohio Dominican before returning to Alumni Hall for the final four games of the regular season.

ODU has won five of its last seven games and four of its last five heading into Saturday's matchup. Two of the Panthers' contests last week went into overtime, with Ohio Dominican earning victories in both games. On Tuesday, the Panthers knocked off Walsh after a buzzer-beater by senior point guard Shemar Waugh (Columbus, Oho) gave Ohio Dominican a 90-88 2OT win over the Cavaliers. Just two days later, sophomore Sam Hickey (Toledo, Ohio) hit a three-pointer at the end of regulation at Trevecca to tie the game before the Panthers scored 21 points in overtime to surge ahead for a 92-85 OT win over TNU.

At 17 assists per game, Ohio Dominican shares the ball better than any team in the conference while also ranking 23rd in the country in assists per contest. ODU averages 79.4 points per game to rank third in the G-MAC in scoring, while holding opponents to 41.3 percent shooting from the field and 31.4 percent from downtown to come in at third in the conference in both defensive categories.

Four Panthers average in double figures in scoring to pace a balanced scoring attack. Sophomore forward Hasan Varence (Queens, New York) notched three double-doubles last week and now boasts averages of 14.3 points and 9.5 rebounds per game. Sophomore Sam Hickey (Toledo, Ohio) is posting 12.3 points per game on 38.1 percent shooting from three-point range to lead the charge for ODU off the bench. Ohio Dominican has been strong off the bench all season, outscoring its opponents' bench in 17 games.

Senior guards Shemar Waugh (Columbus, Ohio) and Ronnie Williams (Columbus, Ohio) also are averaging double figures in scoring. Waugh averages 11.5 points per game, while Williams scores 11 points per contest while shooting 40.3 percent from behind the arc.
