PHILIPPI, W.Va. — Alderson Broaddus earned a hard-fought, 67-65 win over Ohio Dominican's men's basketball team inside Rex Pyles Arena on Saturday evening in a Great Midwest Athletic Conference clash.
Ohio Dominican (8-9, 3-7 G-MAC) trailed 65-63 with 1:38 to go, but senior guard Shemar Waugh (Columbus, Ohio) drew a foul and hit two free throws to tie the contest with AB at 65 apiece. Alderson Broaddus junior guard Mike Davis scored a game-high 31 points on the day and hit the biggest shot of the day with 37 seconds remaining to push the Battlers in front, 67-65. The Panthers held the Battlers (12-4, 6-3 G-MAC) to 38.1 percent shooting from the field and 28 percent shooting from downtown, but Ohio Dominican was limited to 21 second half points on 27.8 percent shooting.
Sophomore forward Hasan Varence (Queens, New York) finished with 20 points and tied a career-high with 14 rebounds, 11 coming in the first half. It marked the sixth double-double of the season and 12th for Varence in his career. Waugh notched 17 points, five rebounds and four assists. Off the bench, sophomore Sam Hickey (Toledo, Ohio) scored 13 points and senior Ronnie Williams (Columbus, Ohio) connected on four, first-half three-pointers to tally 12 points.
