Cedarville Escapes With 75-68 Win Over Men’s Basketball

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Ohio Dominican's men's basketball team trailed just 70-68 to Cedarville with 1:21 remaining in the contest, but a 5-0 CU run to end the game secured a 75-68 win for the Yellow Jackets on Saturday afternoon in a Great Midwest Athletic Conference game in Alumni Hall.

Trailing 70-65 with 1:21 to play, ODU sophomore Ryan Hoyng (Celina, Ohio) hit a three-pointer to cut the Panther deficit to just 70-68. The Panthers forced a Cedarville turnover on the defensive end and gained possession, trailing by two with 50 seconds to play. But Ohio Dominican saw a three-point attempt on the offensive end go offline and Cedarville's Patrick Bain hit two free throws with 28 seconds remaining in the game to extend the Yellow Jacket lead to 72-68 and push CU to victory.

Ohio Dominican (7-8, 2-6 G-MAC) held a 32-13 advantage in bench points over the Yellow Jackets and held Cedarville to 41.5 percent shooting from the field, but the Panthers shot just 41.7 percent from the field and 58.8 percent from the free throw line.

Sophomore guard Sam Hickey (Toledo, Ohio) led the way for ODU with 16 points off the bench. Hoyng scored 13 points, senior point guard Shemar Waugh (Columbus, Ohio) pitched in with 11 points, while senior Ronnie Williams (Columbus, Ohio) tallied 10 points and five rebounds. Cedarville's Bain finished with 35 points to lead all scorers and also notched seven assists and six rebounds.

ODU will look to get back in the win column on Thursday when it travels to Davis & Elkins for a Great Midwest contest, with tipoff set for 7:30 p.m.
