Men’s Basketball Returns Home To Host Cedarville Saturday

COLUMBUS, Ohio — The first home game of 2018 for Ohio Dominican's men's basketball team will take place this Saturday, January 6 at 1 p.m. in Alumni Hall, with ODU set to square off against Cedarville in a Great Midwest matchup.

The game will mark the 51st meeting between the two programs and the first matchup between the teams since 2014.

ODU (7-7, 2-5 G-MAC) is looking for its third home victory in its last four tries and will seek its first win over Cedarville (7-6, 2-4 G-MAC) since the 2009-10 season. The Panthers topped West Virginia State in their last home contest by a final tally of 108-96 and have surpassed the century mark in scoring twice in Alumni Hall this season.

As a team, ODU ranks fourth in the Great Midwest in scoring at 80.1 points per game and third in the conference in scoring defense, surrendering just 70.7 points per contest. The Panthers are shooting 49 percent from the field to come in at fourth in the G-MAC in field goal percentage and also rank fourth in the conference in three-point field goal percentage defense, limiting the opposition to just 32.5 percent shooting from behind the arc. Six of Ohio Dominican's seven losses have been decided by eight points or less.

Leading the Panthers in scoring and rebounding is sophomore forward Hasan Varence (Queens, New York), who boasts averages of 13.9 points and 8.1 rebounds per game this season. Varence has scored 19 points or more in each of ODU's last three games while shooting the fifth-highest field goal percentage in the conference at 52.4 percent.

Three other Panthers are averaging double figures in scoring, with seniors Ronnie Williams (Columbus, Ohio) and Shemar Waugh (Columbus, Ohio) and sophomore Sam Hickey (Toledo, Ohio) averaging over 11.2 points per contest through 14 games.

Following Saturday's game against Cedarville, Ohio Dominican will hit the road to take on conference opponents Davis & Elkins and Alderson Broaddus.
