Findlay Edges By Men’s Basketball, 82-79

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Ohio Dominican's men's basketball team fell in a closely contested, 82-79 GLIAC South contest to Findlay at Alumni Hall on Thursday night.

The Panthers (13-10, 8-9 GLIAC) recorded nine steals on the evening, forcing Findlay into 16 turnovers overall. ODU shot a season-best 85.7 percent from the free throw line (18-of-21) and recorded 17 assists on 25 made field goals.

Leading the way for the Panthers was junior Ronnie Williams (Columbus, Ohio), who recorded 22 points on 6-of-10 shooting from the field, 4-of-7 from three-point range and 6-of-6 from the free throw line. Freshman Hasan Varence (Queens, New York) finished with 15 points, all in the second half, and eight rebounds. Junior Shemar Waugh (Columbus, Ohio) recorded 11 points and seven assists. Off the bench, sophomore Ben Casanova (Sylvania, Ohio) finished with a career-high 15 points for Ohio Dominican.

ODU began the game on a 14-4 run, with Williams accounting for 11 points in the first 5:12 of the contest. Findlay countered with a 17-2 run and the Panthers trailed 37-36 going into the locker room.

Trailing Findlay 45-36 with 16:22 to play, Varence connected on a jump shot to spark what would become a 39-18 run for ODU over the next 11:57. Varence's made jump shot with 4:25 to go gave Ohio Dominican its largest lead of the game, 75-63.

But Findlay outscored the Panthers 19-4 over the final 4:25 to take the win, 82-79.

Ohio Dominican will look to get back in the win column when it travels to Walsh on Saturday for a GLIAC South contest at 3 p.m.
