Home Opener Against Seton Hill Awaits Men’s Basketball Tuesday Night


COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio Dominican's men's basketball team will face Seton Hill in its first home contest of the 2016-17 season on Tuesday night at Alumni Hall, with tipoff slated for 7 p.m.

About Ohio Dominican

Ohio Dominican (1-0, 0-0 GLIAC) is coming off an 86-82 win at Johnson C. Smith on Saturday to capture its fourth season opening victory in the last five years. The Panthers trailed by as many as 18 points in the first half, but outscored the Golden Bulls 47-28 in the second half to secure the victory.

ODU shot 48.1 percent (13-of-27) from behind the arc and held a 22-12 advantage in bench points in the contest. 

Junior guard Ronnie Williams (Columbus, Ohio) led the balanced attack for the Panthers with 19 points.  Junior forward Mike DeLeon (Powell, Ohio) added 12 points and a team-high nine rebounds and freshman Hasan Varence (Queens, New York) scored 12 points and pulled down eight rebounds.  Junior guard Adam Cytlak (Van Buren, Ohio) went 5-of-8 from three-point range to tie a career-high in made three-point field goals and finished the contest with 16 points.  Junior guard Shemar Waugh (Columbus, Ohio) matched his career high with eight assists for the Panthers.

Dating back to last season, Ohio Dominican has averaged 92 points per game in its last three contests, shooting 51 percent from three-point range during the span.

After facing Seton Hill on Tuesday, Ohio Dominican will host St. Joseph's (Ind.) on Saturday, November 19 at 3 p.m. before heading to Wright State for an exhibition contest on Monday, November 21 at 7 p.m.

Seton Hill University is a private, Catholic, liberal arts institution located in Greensburg, Pennsylvania, with an enrollment of approximately 2,500 students.

The Griffins finished last season with an overall record of 13-14 (11-11 PSAC) and finished fifth in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference West Division.  SHU finished the regular season strong, going 6-2 in its last eight games before ultimately falling to Pitt-Johnstown in the PSAC Tournament, 81-72. 

Seton Hill was picked to finish sixth in the PSAC West Division this year in the preseason coaches' poll.  The Griffins return junior center Spencer Casson, who led NCAA Division II in blocks a season ago (95) while also averaging 9.1 points per game and 7.1 rebounds per game. Seton Hill also returns its third-leading scorer and All-PSAC West team selection from last year, senior Noah Davis.  Davis averaged 13.6 points per game a season ago and shot 43.3 percent from three-point range.
